World Cup ’66: My Next Door Neighbour
It was a friendship that would last a lifetime. Having met when they both played at West Ham, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst would share cherished memories of one of the most famous matches in World Cup final history. Not only were they both selected to play in the final but both would go on to score and seal a famous victory over West Germany to claim the Jules Rimet trophy.
"We never imagined we would end up playing in the World Cup together," says Sir Geoff. "Never mind winning it! Our wives became firm friends and we went on to share a lifetime of memories. Martin is very much missed."
Accompanied by memories and anecdotes recounted by Sir Geoff to our editor.
